Here, we will focus on the business owner and the triggers that maximize the firm's profitability. The objective is to create a business plan that works for you, the business owner(s). We like to start with knowing what each owner(s) would like to make, then we reverse engineer a plan that will achieve that goal. Of course, we have to look at the reasonableness of the purposed plan, and if it is attainable based off past performance or data. If it is not, we can adjust the plan to something more reasonable. But the focus here, is on the business owner(s) needs. Our intention is to provide a concise plan with clear goals that can be shared (without your income) throughout the firm. After taking part in this exercise, you will know with certainty how your firm works from a financial perspective. You will come to understand what triggers make significant changes to your bottom line and how to manipulate them to your advantage. Your plan will include a clear understanding of what rates you should be charging, how many hours or cases you need to sell, what rates you must collect at, how your costs, both holistically and individually by biller are effecting your margins, and how much the firm owner can take home and still have a comfortable cushion for error. Having a sound plan is in place is very reassuring and will provide you with a lot of confidence but you cannot stop there. Having a plan in place is only a part of the battle. The next part of the journey is knowing if the plan is being executed accordingly.
